This relaxed workshop introduces the basic techniques of traditional skib-making while exploring the ethos of itinerant craft traditions.
Rough, ready, and deeply symbolic of rural life, the skib is a quintessential Irish culinary basket. Traditionally used to strain and serve boiled potatoes, families would gather around the skib and eat directly from it, making it both a functional household tool and a decorative centrepiece.
Participants will create their own miniature skib to take home using a variety of heritage willows.
Suitable for beginners, materials and tools provided. Tickets are free but booking is essential.
