Emily Fryer

Emily Fryer is a sculptor, builder and assembler working with found objects and ready mades to explore gender and the ‘real’ within new media.

“I find things all the time. Discarded objects, having become valueless in a specific time and place are central to my practice.
This object has no value here and now, what narrative is revealed if I take it and move it and merge it and transform it?
Obsolete gender specific gadgets are recontextualised. I make sci-fi kitchenalia, using value added nostalgia and retro-futuristic ready mades which inject some 'real' into the digital age, kick starting a dialogue about the current state of play. I often use games and kitchens with the same rationale- memory is an instant fix.”

Graduating from Central St Martins in 2009 with a degree in fine art sculpture Fryer has gone on to create commissions for Noisily Festival of the Arts and Wirksworth festival. Fryer works between the Welsh borders, East London and Goa
