Maud Haya-Baviera, Wish You Were Here (still) 2020
Maud Haya-Baviera works with a variety of media and methods, including video, photography, sculpture and installation, employing the strategies of appropriation, performance and participation. She uses literature, cinema and any other material able to convey narratives, which she then playfully subverts to provoke new meanings.
Her current work applies visual experiments to test, reveal and challenge social and political constructs. More broadly, her work is centred on emancipatory concerns. She has exhibited her work in a solo capacity and in group shows nationally and internationally and has received a number of awards in relation to international projects and towards the production of new works.
Recent exhibitions include Aggregate, Freelands Foundation, London, 2022, Heavy Water, Site gallery, Sheffield, 2021, Big Screen Southend, Focal Point Gallery, Southend on Sea, 2021, Talking Sense, The Portico Library, Manchester, 2020, Some Palaces, Künstlerhaus Dortmund, Germany 2019, SALTO Verbindt, Amsterdam, The Netherlands 2019, Doc/Fest, Global Citizens Strand screenings, Sheffield, 2019. Recent commissions include a public artwork for ARTHOUSES LOCALwifi, displayed in the coastal town of Whitley Bay 2021. Haya-Baviera’s work was recently selected by Towner Eastbourne for an exhibition that will take place in 2022 and 2023.
