Sadia Pineda Hameed

Sadia Pineda Hameed is an artist, writer and independent curator based in Cardiff. She works in film, installation, text and performance. She often works collaboratively with Beau W Beakhouse and is co-founder of LUMIN, a small press, arts collective, curatorial project and radio programme.
Her own practice explores collective and inherited trauma; in particular, the latent ways we speak about this. She is interested in the ways that dreaming, telepathic communion and the passing on of secrets might act as forms of resistance and as anti-colonial strategies. Her practice is led by semiotic and associative journeying, and a trust in the intuitive process.
A recent film made for The Bluecoat The Song of My Life focuses on matrilineal storytelling. It knowingly parodies a popular karaoke style video with the text appearing as lyrics for a duet, with only one part voiced by the artist. The film explores how collectivised experiences and memories pass spoken and unspoken between parent and child.
Sadia has also shown work with Artes Mundi, National Museum Wales, g39 WARP, MOSTYN, Peak Cymru, SHIFT, Gentle/Radical, the Eisteddfod, HOAX, Arcade/Campfa and Catalyst Arts. She is writing her first long-form piece: a creative non-fiction novella To Make Philippines, supported by the Literature Wales New Writers Bursary 2020 and Mentoring Scheme 2020. She was also awarded the Rising Star Wales Award 2020.
