Meriel Herbert is an artist whose use of technology creates an intimate portrayal of the self and others, of personal relationships and connections between individuals.
From simple, repetitive body movements to long sweeping landscape shots, Herbert draws in the viewer to a space of contemplation, albeit one that is unnerving and claustrophobic. Herbert's interests include romanticism, her national identity and representations of women in cinema and the visual arts.
Based in Sheffield, Herbert works in installation, sound, video and 16mm black and white film, as well as photo works including The Sheffield Pavillion, distributed at Venice and Documenta.
