Rebecca Jagoe works across text, performance and sculpture, their practice addresses the aspiring self and notions of self-fashioning that might negate embodiment.


Their performance work has been based on both liveness, and the seamless integration of the visual and auditory but a recent awareness of the ableist assumptions has led to the development of a methodology for making online performances which do not provide subordinate versions of work for D/deaf or visually impaired audiences, such as the possibility of two online versions: one purely visual and close-captioned with no sound, in which the script is enhanced by sculpture-costumes, and the other as sound with no visual, in which the script is enhanced by sound interventions and music.

I am a queer, crip, neurodiverse artist, and a non binary femme. My work is a material memoir which examines how my own experiences of illness and gender, how my identity itself, is informed by specific Western cultural narratives. Social isolation as the result of illness has shaped my life, my everyday, how I work as an artist and the works that I make. This [The Fellowship] is a crucial space to entirely reshape my performance practice, to work within my own limitations as a disabled person, and more importantly, to restructure my work as always made for a disabled audience.

Rebecca graduated from the RCA London and Goldsmiths. Recent online commissions include Sea Of Love, Zoom performance, Time Piece 2020, Shiten Mouth ful of tordes, Podcast, Wysing Broadcasts online 2020. Solo shows include Florilege, with Nils Alix Tabeling, Jupiter Woods, Infinite Beatitude of Existence! Ladette Space London. Group exhibitions; Flipside, Fold Gallery, 2018, Hot retaliations and other acts of revenge, Clearview London, 2018 and Death and life are squeezed onto each other and time spills, Yaby, Madrid, 2018. They also write for several publications and commissioning editor at E.R.O.S., and their text-based work has been published by E.R.O.S. Journal, Rice + Toye, Paper Journal and It’s Nice That Printed Pages. They have recently Co-edited On Care, 2020 with Sharon Kivland published by MA BIBLIOTHEQUE.
