Tina Rogers is an artist working in the formats of panting and drawing. She uses these forms to form responses to personal questions and biographical events. Her detailed pictorial works are politically engaging and personally thoughtful.
I come from a poor, working class background (my father was a miner, mother a barmaid), and there was no encouragement or reason to believe that my life would ever involve further education, a career or travel.
Art was for ‘posh’ people and my fate was set in stone: marry young, work in the local factory, have kids, die (most of which, I did).
I began to draw after a life changing illness. Surviving enabled me to feel liberated from the fear of wanting to be an artist, but being afraid of not succeeding because of my class and lack of education.
Tina has worked in a wide range of contexts, presenting works and engaging in research and debate. This includes projects, exhibitions, and colaborations with organisaitions such as g39, Disability Arts Cymru, CWLWM, AXISWEB, and Celf Ar Y Cyd.
