Sophie Lindsey + Sophie Mak-Schram

Sophie Lindsey + Sophie Mak-Schram are an artist duo who art-write, write about art and make text objects. Since spring 2024, they have been printing After-Fact, a slow, semi-regular, hyper local piece of writing that reflects on art happening in Wales.

After-Fact began as a question: where is art criticism and art writing about Wales? Like a weird shadow or hangover of the exhibition or event itself, their writing aims to be gentle, casual and after-the-fact; a debrief rather than a preview.

In their wider work together, Sophie + Sophie ask questions like: HOW DO YOU KNOW IF THE WORK IS GOOD IF YOU KNOW THE ARTISTS? WHEN ELSE IS THE ARTIST PERFORMING? CAN ACCESSIBILITY BE FUN (AND SEXY)?

For UNITe, Sophie + Sophie are developing some objects, performances and ideas, through art-writing and text objects. Through this time they plan to chat with others, read some books, try some snacks in Roath, and work with words in ways that are honest and fun.

Sophie Lindsey works across GIFs, performance, workshops, video, and public-space interventions to create projects that look to prioritise generosity, understanding, and fun!

Sophie Mak-Schram cares about the radicality possible in the 'and' between art and education. She works with others, both as method and form. Her work spans experiential education, inclusion work, collective practices, and artistic research. She convenes, writes, reads, makes objects to learn with or listen to, and performs.
