Angela Magee Delos animation still, 2017
Angela Magee works primarily through the mediums of installation, film and sound. Her work is often based around memory and childhood, although she tries to distance herself from the reductive categorisations and sentimental understandings of these concepts.
'I am interested in the human psyche – in the way that fleeting, forgotten memories pervade our consciousness. I like to reimagine the familiar and to question hidden context and the significance of life’s dualities.I work primarily with digital painting, photography, installation and film. Sometimes I want my art to amuse, other times to disturb, but ultimately, I hope to challenge people to see things in a different way. I work primarily through the mediums of installation, film and sound, layering visuals with layered sounds to try to elicit a visceral response.'
In 2014 Angela won the WJEC FAD ex award for her installation and sound piece, ‘THIS WAY UP’, which was about growing up in Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan over a three period between 1978-1981. Angela will graduate from Cardiff Met this summer, and is currently working on her graduation show – a conversation between footage of an infected larch forest and her father’s Super8 family footage filmed 42 years ago, exploring complexities beyond a surface narrative.
