Matthew Britton’s practice embraces digital and online forms of creativity, and he often develops projects in collaboration with others, sometimes by setting a framework or rules of engagement in place and then relinquishing authorship entirely.
“The work I produce is inspired by the effects that the internet has had on our day to day living. I spend more time on the internet than I do visiting my grandparents and I hope this will pay off one day. I explore themes that exist on the periphery between art and internet culture. I am enthused by the internet's ability to share ideas and the platforms in which it offers the rapid exchange of visual stimuli. I am intrigued by how you can work collaboratively without an emphasis on an end product. I let works grow and develop autonomously and welcome the happy accidents that occur. These kinds of participation may not even be perceived as art at all. I wish to create tools for the bored at work, the bored at school and the bored at home.”
Matthew graduated from University of Glamorgan in 2012 with an MA in Art Practice (Distinction) and in 2009 with a BA (Hons) in Art Practice (1st).He received a Professional Development Award in 2014 for Working in Creative Arts, and in 2012 received the David Tinker Student Award (Contemporary Art Society of Wales), and in 2009 he received the Branwen Thomas Award.
