Hannah Waldron makes tapestries that are architecturally grounded in place, but are adrift in time, in an archetypal temporality. Waldron carefully examines and maps aspects of human interpretation of a landscape. She plays with the nomadic quality of textiles in order to explore the role of the traveller, the tourist, the collector of cities. The gridded streets of Manhattan, the network of canals in Venice, the warp and weft of a weaving, all contain the structural potential for every possible scenario of humanity to play itself out.
Hannah studied at Konstfack, Sweden (2012-14) where she was awarded an MFA in Textiles in the Expanded Field, and previously at University of Brighton (2003-07), where she was awarded a BA in Illustration. While studying in Brighton she was also awarded the The Gerald Dennis Prize. Hannah has exhibited internationally including 'Map Tapestries' (Observatoriemuseet, Stockholm 2013); 'Here & There' (Various Projects, New York, 2013);
and 'PICK ME UP' (Somerset House, London, 2012). Her work is held in the V&A Museum where she also exhibited in 2009 ('Home, Sweet Home'), as well as in private collections.
