Bob Gelsthorpe works with a number of media including film/video, photography, painting, performance and sculpture which he uses to explore different concepts. An interest in buildings and spaces that artists inhabits has developed into an investigation into the idea of ‘The artist studio’ as an artwork.
‘In my practice, I try and isolate the personal catalysts within a studio practice, the tangible or intangible motif that indicates why I began an activity, process or performance in the first place.
The intention within this is to be able to create a succinct language around creativity, communicating a sense of agency and meaning. My agenda is to develop this set of ‘rhizomatic aesthetics’ which have no hierarchy, with multiple entry and exit points.’
Bob graduated with a BA in Fine Art from the Cardiff School of Art and Design, graduating in 2005. He was the recipient of the 2017 Sir Leslie Joseph Young Artist Award, and has exhibited widely.
