Alistair Owen

Lives and works in Cardiff

Alistair Owen's practice uses a wide range of media including installations, drawing, photography, film and sculpture. His practice centres on research and exploration into objects, systems and social presumptions.


Using a simple visual vocabulary, Owen invites oblique, elliptical considerations of issues surrounding space: notions of microcosm and macrocosm, containment and expansiveness, and the body and its environment are held in balance in the photograph ‘Half a Box’; and the iconography of public display is challenged by a series of billboards in locations around Cardiff, executed under the project title ‘maybegood’.

Alistair graduated in 2009 with a BA Fine Art Degree from Cardiff School of Art and Design, Cardiff. He has since exhibited in Cardiff, Bristol, Liverpool and London and won the Safle graduate award in 2009. He is a member of the curators’ group Open/Close, one of WARP’s four group-mentored projects for 2010.
