Anna Barratt creates surrealistic drawings and animations, dredging up imagery from the depths of her unconscious.

Her work springs from the tensions of isolation of the domestic setting, and from playing with and watching her son play; observing his love of gory actions on toy figures, his bloodlust and heroic, absurd games. Her images can be similarly read along the lines as ‘play’, exhibiting an oscillation between receptiveness and detachment, transforming the everyday into the carnivalesque and back again.

Barratt graduated in 1999 with an MA in Fine Art and Printmaking from the Wimbledon School of Art. Her work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions including RE -Drawing, Oriel Davies, Newtown, 2008; If You Build It They Will Come, g39 2008; and Spector vs Rector The Residence Gallery, London, 2007. Her first (eponymously-titled) solo exhibition was held at g39 in 2008.
