Richard Higlett creates photographs, prints, installations and happenings that he considers to be ‘acts of folly’.
Higlett presents information that is often blurred, both aesthetically and conceptually. Signposts can lead to obscure mis-information, as in his proposal for a sculpture to be installed in a forest proclaiming the 21st century as a futuristic utopia; whilst others often lead to theoretical dead ends, as in his attempt at Swansea’s 2008 Locws festival to create a ‘canine choir’. What Higlett advocates in his work is a sense that no matter how simple or complex an idea may be, it is always worth pursuing for the journey alone.
Higlett completed his MA in Fine Art at UWIC in 1999. Since then he has participated in a wide range of residencies and group shows throughout Wales and England. Nominated for the Welsh Artist of the Year show in 2008, he has had two solo exhibitions at Chapter, Cardiff, and took part in Flourish, an exhibition of new Welsh art in Brno, Czech Republic, in 2005.
