Gordon Dalton is equally fascinated and disappointed with our surrounding culture. Dalton’s sculpture utilises an acute identity crisis, playing in the gaps between aspiration and circumstance, the everyday and the mythic and success and failure.
Using an often-predetermined set of guidelines alongside intuitive improvisation, the work is both formal and frustratingly random. Dalton’s aesthetic and conceptual hall of mirrors bounces the viewer between extremes of naivety, calculated ugliness, mean-spirited sophistication, the sublime and the ridiculous. Dalton’s work wants everything to be alright, but that is quite clearly not the case.
Based in Cardiff, Dalton is a artist, writer and curator. Recent solo shows include Marksman Gallery, Reading and Keith Talent, London. He also collaborates with artist S Mark Gubb.
