Wig Sayell has contributed to the South Wales artscene since completing her MA at UWIC in Cardiff in 2000.
Her work at g39 used viewpoints recommended by Ordnance Survey maps and questioned how one location can be differentiated from another in the definition of an aesthetic landscape. The very idea of photography seeks to locate the viewer in a place other than at present. Using projection, Wig explores four compass points at four sites in the South Wales valleys and positions us at the recommended viewpoint.
Working in various locations throughout the South Wales valleys, Sayell raises questions about how we perceive the land that was once an area of heavy industry is now reliant on tourist trade.
