Mark Jackson

Lives and works in Hereford, UK

Mark Jackson’s exhibition at g39 gave him the opportunity to fully realise a piece of work that until then had only been seen as an approximation.

The technically demanding piece involved a double video projection that placed the viewer at sea, presenting the view astern and afore a moving ship, creating a sense of endless and indeterminate movement. Mark's work describes this journey over the ocean to consider time passing. The film echoes the structure we impose onto time: past, present and future. He sees this understanding of time as too simplistic as it denies the importance of change and duration. Rather, we should acknowledge that nothing within our perception is permanent, and instead everything exists within a state of change or evolution.

Mark currently lectures fine art at Hereford College.
