Jennie Savage, Heritage-Site (2006). Commissioned for Beacon Art Project
Jennie Savage uses site-specific installations, public events and interventions as well as audio and video works to address notions of place.
Through a process of local historical research she makes work that intervenes in the life of a site, using narrative images and text true to that area. Using a combination of historic fact and invented fiction in an archival manner, she produces a blurred account of past events and leaves us guessing as to what we can accept as truth.
Savage is a key figure in the Welsh art scene. Since 2000 she has undertaken numerous residencies and teaching tenures throughout England and Wales, as well as spells in Quebec and Mexico. She has been the subject of a number of solo shows in England and Wales, and has featured in international group shows in Berlin, Milan, Copenhagen , Melbourne, Quebec and at the Glasgow International Festival.
