Lives and works in Cardiff
Carwyn Evans works in mixed media, photography and installation. His sculptural explorations take place in both the gallery and public domain. Although differing in scale, his work in both areas shares common concerns.
These include the landscape of rural areas, which are changing due to majority of the farming population getting older, the agricultural crisis and social influx that are a threat to economic structure and culture in rural Wales. Evans places importance on his own cultural experiences, with the work questioning aspects that are inseparable to language, community and a region’s character, aspects that should be protected from further erosion.
In 2000 he was awarded the Young Artist Scholarship at the National Eisteddfod of Wales and was the first recipient of the Ifor Davies award in 2003 for work which was seen to convey 'the spirit of activism in the struggle for language, culture and politics in Wales.'
Evans studied Sculpture at Cardiff School of Art and has exhibited widely. He now lives and works in Cardiff with recent shows including Locws International and solo shows at Oriel Davies, Newtown.
