Description: Gwen Hardie`s work has always been concerned with the landscape of the body, with finding a painterly equivalent for the experience and feel of her own body. The traditional view of a female body in art has been determined by men, that is, from the outside. It has been shaped by the gaze, moulded by desire, exaggerated by fantasy. It has been pushed into stereotyped roles - lover, mother, femme fatale - but rarely allowed to exist in its own right, for what it is, in its basic physicality. this body is only now being discovered, or rather invented by women artists.
