Description: The idea for a symposium to review the context for public art and the practice of collaboration between design professionals, arose out of discussions between artists and public art curators at the conference `Art & The Changing City` organised by British American Arts Association in October `89 in Glasgow. The dialogue continued over ensuing weeks. A symposium focusing on collaborative practices of public artists, architects and environmental designers could not, we thought, take place without an understanding of the context set by the current `key players` in education, strategy making and funding of public art. So the theme `context and collaboration` evolved.
