Emily Hartless investigates how things work; how art and design functions or operates. Informed by her background in History of Art, her research combines various methodologies to unpick how societal and cultural systems are constructed.

Emily focuses on how the body interacts with our material surroundings. She is interested in working with public spaces, often attempting to challenge their accepted usage; how science, design, material culture and linguistics affect our relationship to built and natural environments.

Emily studied History of Art at the Courtauld Institute of Art where she received first class honours. She is the current gallery co-ordinator at Oriel Mwldan in Cardigan, West Wales. The position is part of curatorial internship mentored by Oriel Davies.
