Nic Finch

Born in Wales, I grew up in the middle east, via somerset and now live and work from Cardiff.
My work is very much informed by notions of synaesthesia, while questioning social “norms” and exploring concepts of perception and collective human stories.
I enjoy the visceral qualities of maximalist textures and uneasy juxtaposition - implementing themes such as perception, identity, digital dystopia and the end of history.

My live sketching came about from regularly going to gigs and events and being frustrated at not being able to quite capture the essence of an event with my camera (as well as not talking in the full experience) whilst still wishing to document an occasion. My drawings do not attempt to accurately render, but to impart a sense and energy of the moment in time. I embrace the mistakes and awkward lines that result in such quick-fire graphic recordings.
