Dorrit Nebe

When Dorrit Nebe was still a student of biology, she scribbled into her notebooks with diagrams and drawings of cell structure, she later took the same books to the academy of arts. Such outcome, casual as it was, seemed proof enough to accept her as a student and the course of her career altered.

“I am more interested in stains than in purity”, Dorrit Nebe says. Now, those micro-organisms are suddenly emerging into something different, with ornamental and comical additives, delicately suggesting something, some sort of hovering, swaying, circling and fussing of imaginary rooms. Faces and ghostly figures are deciphered, then left vague and full of meaning, ambiguous and unnamed, a floating world without referents.

Recent shows include Galerie Carla Reul, Bonn; Moltkerei Werkstatt, Köln; Kunstzentrum Karlskaserne, Ludwigsburg.
