Ralph Juergen Colmar's work explores the landscape painting tradition through photographing artificially lit scenes.
From a moving vehicle he traces routes from one location to another, creating a photographic image of his journey which often relates to the town they are shown in. The image refers to the movement of the city through its stillness. This inevitable discord or disparity invites the viewer to re-imagine place, the everyday becomes exotic and dream like.
Having studied in Winchester, he is now based in Bristol where he lectures widely.
