Zillah is a filmmaker and artist with a practice in film, photography and poetry. Her artistic practice frequently explores the relationship between the individual and the natural environment. Her ongoing connection to nature informs her practice across all mediums.

With a spiritual enquiry around climate change and biodiversity, Zillah’s work is moving towards an interdisciplinary practice utilising installation and sound, among others, as well as lens-based media and poetry. Recent work uses moonlight – neither darkness or light – to examine human and plant life and the transition between them, and explores plant-human connection.

Zillah trained at the National Film and Television School, where she was awarded
the Kodak Scholarship. Her photographic series Allowed won in the British Journal of Photography Edition 365 and International Photography Awards. Her film Allowed, using 3D animations of her photographs, won the Jury’s Stellar Award at Thomas Edison Film Festival and is listed for the Aesthetica Art Prize 2022. Her photographic series Green Dark, including poetry, was shown in solo exhibition at Ffotogallery in 2021 and previewed in the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition. Zillah’s film Staying / Aros Mae won the Grand Jury Prize at Premiers Plans Angers and Special Mention at Encounters film festivals, screened internationally and will broadcast on BBC in 2022. She was commissioned in 2021 to make Gwawr/ Dawn to mark the opening of the Welsh Parliament. For her poetry, she has won the Wordsworth Trust Prize, Poems on the Buses Competition and Literature Matters Award from the Royal Society of Literature.
