Jem Finer

An artist and musician, Jem Finer works in a diverse range of fields, including music, film, performance and photography. Leaving university in 1977 with a degree in Computer Science he started to play music and work with children, teaching photography and mathematics.

In 1981 he became a founder member of The Pogues, writing, recording and touring for the next 15 years. He has written and recorded music for film, TV, installations and public spaces and performs both solo with guitars, various sound sources and computer, and in various groups and collaborations, among them L.E.G.O. (London Electric Guitar Orchestra) and Monk, a band in which the Middle Ages collide with the 21st century.

Recent and on going work includes Longplayer, a 1000 year long composition which started to play on the 1st January 2000, performance and installation in zero gravity and under water in collaboration with Ansuman Biswas and oz, a live visual and sonic reworking of the Wizard of Oz.
