Maura Hazelden

Maura Hazelden is based in Crymych, West Wales and works in a number of different mediums including video, installation and performance.

Her piece for the group exhibition Matinee investigates the accuracy of our memories, focusing on the faulty or imagined memories that occur when nostalgia begins to creep in. In a restaging of domestic rituals her video installation challenges the expectations of her elders by adhering to impeccable manners. She combines this with an overt femininity, an obsession with manners and ettiquette that imposes order and definition onto her actions. At times comical, at times deadly serious her work is both attractive and confrontational.

Maura is currently the organiser of 'Ointment', a series of events that highlight video and performance work in West Wales. She is currently teaching at Carmarthen College of Art. In 2008, Maura collaborated with sonic artist Lou Laurens to create an unrehearsed durational performance for Holy Hiatus, a series of temporary public art projects taking place in Cardigan, Wales.
