Charles Jeffery

Lives and works in Paris

Charles Jeffery’s video, performance, sculpture and installation work is very much based in the real physical and raw world where themes of language and word play, working with organic materials and the notion of indeterminacy and chance, are central along with the use and representation of the body.

Combining high art pretension with innuendo and humour in a unique way, fusing the particular languages and references that both elements use. He displays a childlike ambition in his early work with short films like Jumping as high as I can. He is currently touring his Regional Sausage Performance, having previously taken Glamorgan sausages to Frankfurt, Frankfurters to Edinburgh and Saucissons to Cardiff. Future plans include Haggis and Knokwurst.

He recently took part in La nuit Blanche in Paris and in November 2006 he showed several
new works in the exhibition Horizon sythemtique organised by L’ambassade. His practice
shifts between individual, collaborative and curatorial projects. Charles is the founder of the artists group behind the We're Not Here… series of exhibitions.
