Bob Gelsthorpe works with a number of media including photography, painting, performance and sculpture which he uses to explore different concepts. He also has a curatorial element to his practice. The projects Bob involves himself with, and their results is what he considers his practice to be. Bob researches the idiosyncrasies of his studio practice, and the ‘studio’ itself, which is of great interest to him from running a studio complex after graduating. “There’s an allure to the environment itself, the working place, the thinktank, etc. The notion that the building that an artist inhabits can become their catalyst for creating work is a high interest and an honest investigation to understand the concept of ‘artist studio as artwork'.”
Bob graduated with a BA in Fine Art from the Cardiff School of Art and Design. He is also co-founder of BIT Studios in Cardiff.
