Simon Fenoulhet uses light or power to energise places or objects. He has a fascination with the term 'live', whether it describes the flow of electrical current or actually being alive.
Simon skilfully manipulates everyday objects with unexpected outcomes. The recurrent theme is one of transformation, re-presenting the familiar in ways which cause us to change the way we look at the world. In recent years, his use of light has added another dimension to the work. By making light an integral part of each piece, discarded toys, bricks and teaspoons take on new meanings, subverting their original function.
Simon graduated with an MA in Fine Art from Cardiff College of Art, in 1987. Notable solo exhibitions include
Another Light, Glynn Vivian Museum and Art Gallery, Swansea, 2005,
Light Works, Howard Gardens Gallery, U.W.I.C., Cardiff in 2003 and
Lucent Lines at Newport Museum and Art Gallery, 2010. He has also played a central role in the development of public art in Wales through his work with Cywaith Cymru.Artworks Wales.
